Picayune Main Street Inc Received Mississippi Arts Commission Grant

JACKSON, MISS. – July 5, 2023, Picayune Main Street, Inc. of Picayune MS was awarded an $ 1875.00 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. This grant is a portion of the more than $1.75 million in grants MAC awarded in Fiscal Year 2024 and will be used to preserve and protect 21 Murals in our downtown district.

“We were excited to receive these funds to protect the beautiful artwork/murals from the elements and graffiti in Downtown Picayune MS. The anti-graffiti/protectant is costly but feel confident the product will help preserve the artwork for several years.”

2020 Making Downtown More Loveable Grants Awarded
Picayune Main Street, Inc. will provide financial incentives for downtown property owners to make exterior improvements to existing downtown properties. All awards shall be remitted pending completion and inspection of the project. The grant is not a loan and will not have to be re-paid. Two projects per year may be awarded by Picayune Main Street, Inc.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Facade Grant Program is:

  • To increase utilization of existing downtown buildings
  • To strengthen downtown business potential by retaining and attracting businesses
  • To restore the economic vitality of Picayune’s downtown through increased retail sales, commercial businesses and valuation of property
  • To improve the aesthetics of the downtown district.
  • Historic Downtown Picayune District was approved 1996
