

Friday, July 7th Accreditation Alignment Exercise:
Community Program Assessment Meeting was held, Jennifer Lay, MS Main Street Director of Community Development, Former Starkville Main Street Director conducted the meeting along with Lisa Mullins Thompson, National Main Street Senior Program Officer for Revitalization Service, who joined via video with several members of the Picayune Main Street Board of Directors & Picayune Vitality Team.
Results from February Community Assessment Survey were reviewed. Input on several community topics was also discussed.
Lisa Thompson will compile information from the survey and the discussion that will be helpful with Picayune Main Street 2024 Work Plan using the Main Street 4-Point Approach of Design, Organization, Promotion, Economic Vitality.

Thigpen Alley Named in Honor of S.G. “Grandpa” Thigpen Ribbon Cutting June 17th 5:45 pm Alley is located 108/110 East Canal Downtown Picayune Samuel Grady “Grandpa” Thigpen, Sr. was an area entrepreneur who opened Thigpen Hardware Store in 1919 at this very location. An integral part of the community, Grandpa operated the store for 62 years (1919-1981)In addition, Thigpen was both a founder and the first president of the First National Bank of Picayune, a radio broadcaster, a writer, and a local historian. The Thigpen Store News, a publication that contained local history and articles written by Thigpen, as well as free want ads for the public, ran for over 57 years. “Grandpa” Thigpen passed away on Christmas Day, 1981, at the Lucius Olen Crosby Memorial Hospital in Picayune. He was 91.
